PITTODRIE STREET \ Aberdeen

Student Accommodation

A new coastal home for 618 students on the doorstep of Aberdeen FC

The site, as you can possibly guess, is close to the home of Aberdeen FC and within a short walking distance from Aberdeen University Campus.

A granite cutting business occupied the site before it was redeveloped for student housing by Watkin Jones Group and significant volumes of repurposed granite was incorporated into the scheme. Two separate sites on either side of Pittodrie Street formed the planning application within a conterminous red line boundary.

Manson designed a scheme that reflects the surrounding character through carefully selected materials; granite, facing brick and gold coloured cladding in the courtyard. The height, scale and massing of the proposal is sensitive to the adjacent buildings with features such as dormer windows and landscaped perimeter boundaries that ensure the proposal fits seamlessly into the existing street scene.

The project was a phased completion with the smaller block on the north side of the street completing one year prior to the southern block. The project was completed in 2019 by Robertson Construction and in total, can accommodate 618 students.
