Manson were appointed to the scheme in 2010, it forms part of a mixed-use scheme located in the Lansdowne area of Bournemouth. The project includes 450 student bedspaces designed as predominantly five bedroom clusters. The building shape and form was evolved by understanding the pedestrian permeability through the site. Manson created an angular boulevard through the site allowing pedestrian access to the adjacent proposed hotel and office building.
The residences were designed as an S-shaped block forming elevations on to St. Swithuns Road and York Road. The entrance to the block is located on the north east corner of the site. Several early design discussions took place with the Local Authority and regional design groups within Bournemouth. Manson’s goal was to ensure that the proposed scheme visually connected with the surrounding townscape and in particular the skyline geometry was both complimentary and dynamic as a solution.
