The scheme received planning approval in 2011 and included a teaching block facility and student residences for INTO Universities. The project is immediately adjacent to the Caledonian University Campus, and was seen by the Local Authority as a “gateway” site as entered from the north of the city toward Glasgow town centre.
Our initial design studies included an analysis of the potential masterplan within the Kyle Street and North Hanover Street area; particularly the relationship of student and pedestrian movement toward the main University Campus.
The main student accommodation is located on Kyle Street forming a new street line and gateway vista to the town centre. The eight storey accommodation block was designed with a double-height window treatment in order to create an elegant synergy with the existing urban landscape.
