Manson were appointed by Watkin Jones Group in 2012 to design a student residence project on a small site immediately adjacent to the River Kelvin; conceived as Phase 2 of a scheme previously completed by Manson. Old Dumbarton Road is located in the west end of Glasgow and is immediately adjacent to Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall.
Connectivity to the proposed River Kelvin Walkway was a key factor in the development of early design work, ensuring that the proposal took account of the proposed bridge links over the river.
The proposal is for 128 student bedspaces based on five bedroom cluster arrangements with a small percentage of studio rooms. Common rooms and amenity spaces are designed over two floors incorporating unique double height spaces overlooking a landscaped courtyard and the river environment.
